Norton On For Bourne Legacy's Baddie
He'll cause trouble for Jeremy Renner

13 July 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

Norton On For Bourne Legacy's Baddie

Things have been quiet on the casting front for Tony Gilroy’s sideways continuation of the Jason Bourne universe with The Bourne Legacy. But today brings news that Gilroy appears to have found the man who will cause trouble in the movie, with Edward Norton now in negotiations to play the bad guy.

Gilroy is keeping the plot cards close to his chest for now, but what we do know is that Matt Damon’s Bourne is not likely to appear (though there’s always a scant chance of a surprise cameo, we suppose). Nope, this time around the hero will be Jeremy Renner, playing a yet-to-be-named assassin who is having similar identity issues who is part of an operation that turns out to be even more deadly than Bourne’s labyrinthine nemesis Treadstone.

As for Norton? Beyond his generally evil status, we’re not sure what he’ll be up to just yet. But it’s the first time he’s played a flat-out villain for a while.

Rachel Weisz is also now officially aboard after being announced as in talks back in May. We wonder if she’ll get to enjoy a slice of the action and has been taking any tips from her new hubbie (Daniel Craig, in case you missed that news)…

There’s no word on when Legacy will kick off shooting, but it’ll be out on August 17, 2012.

RE:
I'm thinking they should of dropped the Bourne title and gone for something different. This is a completely different film/series with the name attached. Ed Norton is one of my favourite actors though, and I'm pretty sure he'd make a pretty badass villain. It's Renner that I'm worried about. They've been giving him all these action roles after The Hurt Locker and The Town, but those were real characters. Not just guys with guns like the new Bourne and the new Mission Impossible dudes w More

I can't comment on the books, not having read them. But I will say more films fail the books than not; but having a top notch trilogy inspired by the books can only be a good thing. If the films were shite, it'd be a different story. More

RE: Norton On For Bourne Legacy's Baddie
Well, they've already bastardized the books with the films. Even though the films were exciting, especially the first. At least the casting on this one looks top notch, so I will not care too much about them continuing the universe or not. More

I can't see how this works. It's supposed to be another agent from the same programme as Jason Bourne; but in Supremacy, the guy that Bourne brains with a rolled up issue of Empire tells him that they're the last two. If Damon's not bothered, they should let it go. Instead of bastardising it, a la Terminator. More

I wish they weren't making this. It would be fine if it was a completely different franchise, but leave Bourne alone. More
