Peter Jackson's Hobbit Diary Online
Join him in Hobbiton

14 April 2011  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen

Something special has landed today from the far distant reaches of Middle-earth. It's Peter Jackson's first videoblog (or 'videblogisode', as he doesn't seem to be calling it). It charts the final weeks of pre-production on The Hobbit with a thrilling, emotional and pretty unprecedented glimpse behind the scenes of the movie.

Watch and enjoy below. The painful genesis of the two-part 3D epic doesn't really need reiterating - but, OMG, ouch - and the spring is clearly back in the director's step as principal photography kicks off. In fact, unless our peepers are deceiving us spectacularly, he may even have let us in on Bilbo's discovery of a certain piece of jewellery under the Misty Mountain.

If this rocks your world as much as it does our, head to Facebook and like it immediately. Richard Taylor demands it.

Wonderful. It's like I'm watching the Special Edition extas for the first time again! A nerdy confession, yes, but I make no apologies. I am incredibly excited by this! More

What a fantastic video! My anticipation levels have been upped somewhat by that, although the thought of Martin Freeman as Bilbo still makes me shudder! I'm hoping he proves me wrong... More
