Famke Janssen Joins Hansel & Gretel
With Jeremy Renner & Gemma Arterton

09 February 2011  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Playlist

While the various variations on Snow White start gearing up towards production (or keep stumbling through development limbo), fellow fairytale genre twister Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is hiring more cast members. According to the team at The Playlist, Famke Janssen is the latest recruit to sign on.

Paramount already has Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton in place for an action adventure that follows the titular pair, all grown up and getting over their traumatic early encounter with the crone in the gingerbread house by re-inventing themselves as witch killers.

And according to Deadline, Janssen will be playing the Big Bad, the leader of the evil witches. Nice to see her tapping her sexy dark side again.

Hansel is pushing to start shooting next month (a requirement, since the cast is busy with lots of other jobs) and Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola is the man calling the shots from DW Harper’s script. Oh, and given Wirkola’s zombie history and the fact that Adam McKay and Will Ferrell’s Gary Sanchez company is behind this one, we’re hoping for a blend of nasty scares and some dark humour…
