First Look At Judge Dredd
Karl Urban is the law...

19 November 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Jock

It was bound to happen eventually, and rather than let some paparazzi or cell phone photographer get the snap, the team making the new Judge Dredd movie have turned the duty of distributing the first picture of Karl Urban as the titular lawman over to comic legend (and the film’s concept artist) Jock, who hit The Twitters with the image below.

As you can see, Urban’s outfit borrows a lot from the 2000AD comic’s look for Dredd (particularly the helmet, which we’re told he won’t remove).

Peter Travis is shooting Dredd right now in South Africa, and finds the iconic Street Judge trapped in a particularly nasty tower in Mega City One with new recruit Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) facing a load of the city’s toughest criminals. We’re promised a dark, gritty 3D take that has a script by Alex Garland.

While it doesn’t have a set release date yet, expect this one to deliver justice in 2012. Hat tip, by the way, to Bleeding Cool for spotting the pic.

Siiiiiiiiiiinking......feeeeeeling......
Just seen the pic of the new Lawmaster...... I thought the uniform was disappointing to say the very least. Then saw the images claiming to show some Justice dept vehicles... not just disappointing but completely unforgivable unless its a part of some massive joke. And now the Lawmaster is revealed to be something similar to my grannys maxi moped. Is this film shaping up to be one massive turd or what?. I really hate it when a producer promises something faithful to the source material and t More

What other sites do is up to them - we only work to rule breaches on this site. Although we'd probably prefer the fanfiction/made up personal images links to stay in the appropriate place.   Also - please check the title before posting Dreddhead - you included a spam site in the title of your post by replying to a spammer. Some breaking Dredd news. Due to pressure from the fans, the producers of the new film have modified the uniform: img28.imageshack.us/img28/6531/judgedreddnewlook1.jpgI dunno about you lot, but I think it's a big improvement! Urban looks fantastic! More

L: dreddhead123 Original version vs new Urban version: http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/3331/dreddvsdredd1.j pg It looks a mess compared to the cleaner streamlined original version. If you want to make changes don't make it look worse! f they can't even get the uniform right what chance has the rest of the film got? This new look uniform is like the Alex Garland screenplay - uninspired. 'm sorry, but the version that you've linked to (that isn't Urban) looks ridiculous! More

RE: Helmet Head
God, not this guy again. Dreddhead, you've made it abundantly clear that you aren't a fan of the new film. On several forums. Why are you determined to vent this opinion at every opportunity? Get a life man! Anyway, I think it looks good. Like someone already said, it has its roots in the earlier Dredd strips, without the ridiculously huge eagle. I reckon the eagle will stilll appear as an inlay on the other shoulder pad but we'll wait and see. Carlos Ezquerra, the artist who created More

RE: Helmet Head
L: dead_cell79 Am I the only one who thinks his helmet is far to big for his head, i can hardly see his chin, thought so too at first, however the picture is pretty dark Iv seen a number of brightened images (http://www.2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,3096 5.msg562139.html#msg562139 ) which actually look a lot better And remember this is a picture from a dress rehersal, hence the random office block background, and Urbans stubble EDIT: Seems my link has gone bee More

RE: popbuynow.com
@dreddhead123 I hardly see it as 'arrogance'. What worked for a fan film probably wont work for a £40mil mainstream film. They have to make this guy look real, make it seem like this could actually exist. walking around with a giant golden eagle on his shoulder probably wouldn't sit right with people not familiar with the character. Also, I can't find the image, but this looks like its being based off of early Dredd look, where he didnt have the massive shoulder pads. No one see More

RE: popbuynow.com
The changes to the Dredd uniform are unnecessary and a sign of arrogant stupidity. The original version of Dredd's uniform can work in live action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=227D97ZmnmQ Looks faithful and credible to me. t's a great pity the people making this new Dredd film think they know better. They don't know better, far from it. Their uniform is a mishmash compromise - original 2000AD Dredd helmet, tiny shoulder pads and a Stallone Dredd badge. Talk about clueless. the ch More

The large image tenstrings mentioned: http://yfrog.com/f/em5tvbj/ (click it to bigify) I think he looks great, got a Riot Cop look going on. I can definetly imagine him beating the shit out of some unfortunate perps. I do wish they could stick to the look of the comics Lawgiver though, I liked the little dial thing. More
