Rachel Weisz Up For Dark Knight Rises?
She's just one on the list...

12 November 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Now that we know that he’s actually committed to make it, locked in both a title (The Dark Knight Rises) and an actor to play one of the main new characters (Tom Hardy), Christopher Nolan is turning his attention to another crucial part of the next Batman film: actresses to take the female leads. And according to Deadline, he’s got a list of possible names for meetings.

So who are the likely ladies? Try Rachel Weisz, Blake Lively, Naomi Watts, Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley. Not exactly big surprises, but we have confidence that the director will pick the right person for the roles.

Yes, that’s right: roles plural. While the details are still tightly wrapped in the usual Bat-shroud of secrecy, the two jobs are apparently a love interest for Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale), which he’ll need since Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Rachel met her end in the last film, and a female villain who, we presume, will work alongside Hardy (which assumes, of course, that current reports of him playing a baddie pan out.)

As for anything else? Nolan’s not saying and since he’ll likely repeat what he did with Hardy and have the chosen ones sign up without a final script, we doubt much will get leaked for a while yet.

That said, Collider has a rumour that while the director has said he won’t be shooting the movie in 3D, he’s apparently considering making it entirely in IMAX, after filming portions of The Dark Knight in the format. His final decision rests on whether the smaller, and more importantly quieter, camera the IMAX team have been developing will be ready in time for the new movie’s schedule.

RE: pff... none of them
I've just always thought Portman would be great in the role. She's a dancer so I'm sure she would be more than capable of pulling off some agile moves. & who says Catwoman has to fight much? She was always more of a thief/schemer/scarperer as far as I can recall. As for her height...well she's only an inch or so shorter than Michelle Yeoh & Zhang Ziyi, & I have no problems believing they could actually beat up a grown man... Still, it's very early days yet. Anything could happen! More

L: waltham1979 What is the love for Natalie Portman??!! Never gonna get it...anyway, the more and more I think about it I can see Weisz as Talia Al-Guhl; although to be fair I would have much preferred Carla Gugino for the role. I wouldn't complain if the rumours are true!! ave to say I agree totally. Not sure why her name keeps coming up with these action orientated roles (Batman, Alien,)?? I liked her as a kid in Leon, but as a woman I find she has very little presence in any film More

I think Weiz and Portman will fit in to Nolan's world but I can't imagine Knightly and Watts - just don't think they would work. But I trust Nolan.... More

L: jonny_menomic I've said it before & I'll say it again: Natalie Portman as Catwoman! Come on Chris, you know it makes sense... & I agree, Weisz would definitely make a great Talia al-Guhl. hat is the love for Natalie Portman??!! uld also open up return and completion of Scarecrow as the only 'villian' on the market for Black Mask to deal with given Joker's in Arkham as there was no clear conclusion for him in TDK (Batman left him tied up awaiting pick up) and then have Black Mask kill him in wiping out all threats to his reign. /i]  Talia comes to Gotham knowing Batman and Bruce are one of the same from father's League of Shadows colleagues and then Bruce having conflict of who he really needs to be. /i]  More

RE: casting
L: Samurai7 Hardy will be the penguin - no doubt. Not as sure about the woman, but Id be super happy with Weisz being the love interest and Naomi Watts being Catwoman. o Penguin will not be in this film; Nolan has already said he won't appear in his films. I agree with Marwood, my bet is Weisz is playing Talia Al Guhl... More
