Brody Sues To Stop Giallo's US Release
He's claiming he didn't get paid...

19 October 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Adrien Brody clearly wanted to see what it would be like to take direction from Italian horror guru Dario Argento on Giallo. But now it would appear the true horror is the idea that the film, which was slashed by critics and bypassed US cinemas entirely, might actually see the light of day on DVD while he’s still waiting to get paid for appearing in it.

The Predators actor has sued for $3 million and wants the release halted (a bit late, considering it’s supposed to hit shelves across the pond today), claiming that he signed a “pay or play” deal to star in the movie, which he was told had secured complete funding. But when he then learned that the producers were still lacking all the money to make the thing, he decided to leave. He was talked back with the promise that Italian distribution rights had provided $2 million that he’d have the opportunity to defer his $640,000 salary in exchange for the right to refuse the use of his likeness in the film until he got his full payday.

Smart move? Not according to the actor, who is now launching his lawsuit alleging the new cash claims were false and that producers not only ignored his wishes about putting the movie out, but also then said they’d never pay him. Not exactly the way to win the man over, gents…

The case will rumble on, likely until Brody hires one of the Predators to hunt down the pesky producers…
