David Slade Directing Wolverine 2?
He and Robert Schwentke are contenders

20 August 2010  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Vulture

With Hugh Jackman’s recent decision to quit Avon Man, he’s got more time in his schedule to train for Fox’s sequel to Wolverine. And now it appears that the choice of director has been narrowed down to two possibilities, with Twilight: Eclipse’s David Slade and Red’s Robert Schwentke the leading contenders, according to the Vulture blog.

Slade, of course, can parlay his recent experience directing hairy creatures that fight in Eclipse and his past work on the likes of 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy. While thanks to Red’s healthy buzz, Schwentke has become something of the Ryan Reynolds of the megaphone world, lining up possible projects one after the other.

According to Vulture’s sources, Slade has the upper hand right now, but Jackman is even now putting them through their paces, Dragon’s Den-style to see who gets the job. Okay, so he’s probably just talking to them, being as he's a nice fella, but we like to think of it that way.

Christopher McQuarrie has written one of the most recent drafts of the script, which finds Logan still in Japan (where one of the tags from the first film left him). He kicks off a romance with a woman who is already engaged to be married, but of course that doesn’t stop Wolvie given his foul mood after the events of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Cue a fight!

Once a director has been picked, the film is scheduled to start shooting in January.

RE: Actually, fuck Wolverine...
All i hope is that Slade goes back to the style we saw in Hard Candy & that they at least try & keep some semblence of Wolverines back story intact this time. More

RE: Actually, fuck Wolverine...
Yeah. Fuck Wolverine! But I disagree. Raisins in a Milky Bar is much more palatable than the travesty of X-Men Origins. Wolverine's "the best there is at what he does but what he does best isn't very nice." When and where? Not in that movie. Most of the time he just stands around looking pissed off and NOT killing anyone. The movie was shit. The comics have become shit. I'm not interested in an immortal, unkillable hero. I won't be watching — unless they reboot, make him vulnerable an More

RE: RRRRAAAGGGGEEEE!!!
Agreed on the second half of your point, but I think one has to do with the other.  If something fans, surely it must be for a reason... surely it has qualities which have earned it its status and popularity over the years. Pleasing fans the general movie-goer are mutually exclusive. While pleasing fans alone won't necessarily win something a wider audience, pleasing fans almost guarantees a failure. If you can't even please the core audience who are already invested in wanting it More

"Lets decide to kill him AFTER we make him indestructible!"
I actually think this has potential, Jackman would of heeded the negative response to the last film and now that the 'origins' bit has been done with, its time to let him off the leash! More

I concur with beebs comment. Hopefully with McQuarrie writing it'll be a vast improvement on dire-logue like "These bullets won't kill you, but they'll erase your memory!" If only I could erase my memory of that travesty of a film. Hugh Jackman - you're better than that and you know it! More
