Tony Scott May Hire The Associate
He’s considering the Grisham film…

Movies in which people shuffle papers or make speeches in courtrooms wouldn’t seem to be the natural stomping ground for Tony Scott, who usually only has paper when it’s flying everywhere after an explosion and characters giving speeches while fighting for their lives. But when it’s a John Grisham legal film, the game changes. If the LA Times’ sources are to be believed, Scott could well be getting into the Grisham business with The Associate.

Paramount already has the film bubbling away in development, with Shia LaBeouf roped in to star as a young lawyer who is manipulated into joining a prestigious firm and is then forced to pass secrets to a shady government contractor.

With LaBeouf in the lead and The Departed’s William Monahan behind the script, adding Scott as a big-name director would certainly help the project rise to the top of the heap in terms of production. The Grisham brand hasn’t exactly been the shiniest in Hollywood since the late 1990s, so perhaps this could represent a renaissance?

Scott’s not committed yet, though he’s apparently close. He’s just finished work on Unstoppable with old pal Denzel Washington (himself a Grisham alum - remember The Pelican Brief?), so he’s in the market for another assignment, despite the various possible jobs already pencilled into his schedule, including Potzdamer Platz and Hell's Angels.

I'm on board with this one. I thought that the comparisons with the Firm were terribly unfair. There's some good mileage in this book that could produce a film at least on a par with, and dare I say, superior to the Firm. In this age of sequels, this is better than a "The Firm 2" type film. This could be a film that stands alone as a journey through burning professionals, corporate espionage and personal demons which for me sits nicely with some of the 'firms' that are my competitor More

The Bland Leading The Bland
Just what the world needs, another John Grisham adaptation. Hasn't that guy gotten tired of recycling the same old legal conspiracy plot again and again? You seen one Grisham movie, you've seen 'em all. Lazy is the word. Why Tony Scott would want to bother with tosh like this is beyond me. More

I can hear it now.....
The L.A. Times headline describing mayhem in the courtroom during a tragic hand crank camera accident, taking out six actors playing jurors, which sparked a fire that partially electrocuted the judge actor, which caused Shia to pass out from the stress and piss himself. And since Tony Scott had 12 other cameras running, he could still use the footage in the edit. I kid. I kid. I say this as a fan, man. Tony Scott movies are always fun, even if you can predict the end from frame one (HI DEJA V More
