Ive never been a fan for the Harry Potter films, so I cant comment if he turned his outings on the franchise to shit, but everybody here seems to critize him for that. I think he is a good director, and I say that based on his directing on the grim TV drama Sex Traffic from 2004, pre Harry Potter. Check that before U hammer the guy for Harry Potter!!
As for The Hobbit.... Never a big fan of the Rings film either!!! Enjoyable films, but not as great as they say. More

I thought he did an alright job with Potter 5, considering it was one of the weaker novels and a rather bulky entrance at that. However, the better Deathly Hallows story was a bit of a let down in terms of adaptation to be honest. Either way, he ain't in the same league as a Del Toro or Peter Jackson, so this is a big no for me. More

we do not need the hobbit turning into a shitty kids adventure with dullness up to our ears, peter jackson should stop bitching and just make it himself, then it will perfectly fit into the other films!! or bring back Del torro! PETER FINISH IT OFF More

David Yates is one of the worst directors working today and the reason why the HARRY POTTER movies have become dull. He's a bland hack, just like Chris Columbus. I don't why David Heyman chose him to direct POTTER 5, 6 and the two-part Seventh installment. And he doesn't deserve that Best Director award he won at the Empire Film Awards two years ago.
Also, I really do hope MGM will burn in hell. It's their own bloody fault they've gotten into that mess. If I read one day that MGM have lost th More

I said as much on another website yesterday-Alfonso Cuaron all the way! He knows a bit about such material, he directed the 3rd and best of the Potter films, produced Pans Labyrinth-working alongside Del Toro and directed Children of Men. He can encapsulate some of Del Toro's ideas I am sure and add his own. More

...which scares me as it might mean there's something to it. Who in their right mind would give such a potentially visual feast to the man who preferred an underlit warehouse for the Department of Mysteries than JK Rowling's vision of "birds in belljars" etc etc. If Yates' HP films were a colour - they would be beige....possibly taupe . I hear its very soothing. More
