Megan Fox For Red Sonja?
Goodbye, Rose McGowan

06 April 2010  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Pajiba

Eighteen months ago, Rose McGowan was "free-running with swords" in preparation for Red Sonja. And then... silence.

There was a clue in the news that she'll be appearing in Marcus Nispel's Conan as Somebody Else,* but now it seems confirmed, via an exclusive over at Pajiba, that while the rather delayed Sonja do-over is still a going concern, Rose will no longer be filling the chain-mail bikini. Which, sadly, renders the rather exciting teaser artwork of yesteryear sadly redundant.

Who will replace her? Well according to Pajiba's source, the shadowy and mysterious Hollywood Cog, the offer is out to Megan Fox, who to be fair, is a bit closer in age to the "innocent teenager who metamorphosizes into an unparalleled warrior" than the 36-year-old Rose (Brigitte Nielsen was 22 for the 1985 version).

The word on the street is that the project as it previously existed has basically been scrapped, with director Doug Aarniokoski (Highlander: Endgame) also departing, and new writers being sought to draft further drafts of David N White's script.

Robert Rodriguez does still seem to be attached as producer though. He told MTV not long ago that Red Sonja's future depended on the box-office performance of Conan. But re-branding the package as a potential solo franchise for the hot-but-untested Fox (Jennifer's Body was a two-hander; Transformers' human performers are irrelevant) might just, we're thinking, make the Hollywood suits that much more inclined to sign some cheques. Megan Fox in scant metal underwear? We can envisage untold dramatic potential, and possibly several Oscars. This film must be made.

*Sonja being, like Conan, a Robert E Howard character. Except she isn't really, because the Sonja we recognise has more to do with Marvel Comics and Roy Thomas.

Hmm...
I still have a bit of faith for her in Jonah Hex, despite being a prosititute in the film. More

I really don't have to see a new Conan or Red Sonja movie, but it's a shame we have to miss out on a underdressed Rose McGowan. She's so pretty... :) More

Have we forgotten Planet Terror?
If there's anything to learn from Planet Terror, its that Rose McGowan is perfect for Red Sonja. Besides, it won't be the first time a teenage character is played by someone way older. More

RE: Ahahahahahaha
Oh come on, Momoa is perfect for Conan.  Never mind Baywatch, his Ronan from Atlantis wasn't HUGELY different.   Megan Fox for Sonja?  The craft services table has more range and she's hardly an action starlet.  Scream queen maybe.  I'm sure there's a thousand other candidates who'd look just as good in chainmail... Ahahahahahaha
Megan Fox? Hey, she'll look great in the skimpy armour/leather/whatever but surely I'm not the only one who's noticed she can't act (well, she seemingly can't do anything but surprised or slutty anyway). That's great - the producers want to avoid the last Sonja film's failure so no doubt this one will have a larger budget but if Megan Fox is their new lead then I'm just waiting for them to sign up Stephen Sommers to direct. Man, I thought the Conan reboot was in trouble (aside from grabbing L More

Ouch
Rose is clearly no Streep but the blank stare of Megan Fox is a pretty poor substitute. Too bad this flick is dead in it's old form, I was actually kind of looking forward to it. More

The Red Fox Runs Rings Around Rose
Red Sonja was useless movie, so they can only improve on it. I like Rose McGowan's big, bulgy eyes, any chance they could cast her as the older, lesbian villainess who has a crush on Sonja that culminates in a bit of lez action and a catfight? Not much to ask, is it? More
