Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class
What does it mean for Magneto movies?

22 December 2009  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Heat Vision Blog

Now that he's officially signed to develop and direct the film, Bryan Singer has begun to talk - at least, to drop hints - about mutant prequel pic X-Men: First Class.

Chatting with the Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, Singer admitted that while he couldn't talk specifically about the story (it's still a secret), he could lock down what part of the X-story it would cover. "It’s basically about the formation of the X-Men. How they began and the relationship between a young Xavier and a young Magneto."

And since it'll borrow elements from Eric Lensherr's longer life, it's even more likely that the Magneto origin movie will be shoved back on the schedule as Fox concentrates on this. "This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust."

But even First Class will have to wait in line behind Singer's planned fantasy pic Jack The Giant Killer, which is his next scheduled movie. "Right now that is the plan. Unless there's a problem in the development process. There is a script for "Jack"; we're in visual development. We've got artwork and pre-viz that we are doing. But you never know how things go."

He talks more about Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, both of which sound like they're still far from certain just yet, so go take a look.

l be no Wolverine? If he follows his own timeline, Wolverine won't be able to be in it. Who will be the lead? Young Storm? Young Cyclops? I'm gonna wait to hear some casting on this oneope! no Storm either! Villains are. . .(wait for it). . .Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch (soon to be placed in the revised Avengers teams 'till Scarlet Witch blows half of them to kingdom come(incedently, when she ACTUALLY becomes interesting!). . .Mastermind (now dead from the Legacy Virus, his daughter Lady M More

RE:
The BSG remake can be permanently shelved as far as I'm concerned. As can this X-Men project. I'm surprised Singer wants to do this as he will surely be so limited in the mutants he can feature and the story he can tell. No Iceman, Shadowcat, Angel, Colossus, Pyro, Nightcrawler, Rogue, not to mention the most obvious, Wolverine. I too feel it would benefit from not being so Logan-centric, but still... I'm just waiting for the day when Marvel buy back all their movie licences and make a Spi More

RE: Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class
With the X Men series being so Wolverine heavy, I wonder what the general viewing public will think of an X film without him.  I welcome it to be honest, especially with Singer back, but I think many may have the feeling of there be something missing throughout.  Unfortunately, just keeping the fan-boys happy isn't enough to bring in the cash.  Therefore, I bet they'll replace Logan with a similar type of character to centre the film around.  Ca More

L: shool L: Rumbaabaa Great news - X2 was one of the best films this decade, eally? I thought it was good, but not great. o, I loved it. I had really high expectations going in, and they were met and exceeded. Easily the best comic-book movie. Maybe that's just me though. More

RE: Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class
Great news - X2 was one of the best films this decade, and the first one was ace as well, so Singer returning to the series is no bad thing. Will also be great to actually see an X-Men film without Wolverine taking centre-stage. Not sure why people are moaning about more X-Men films - there's plenty of Batman and Bond films, and it's not like there's a lack of plots or characters... More

RE: Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class
While X Men Origins: First Class: Year 1: Cyclops and Friends sounds a pretty shit idea, it doesnt sound and wont turn out half as bad as a lot of people are making it out to be. Singer isnt untouchable in terms of film making but he clearly enjoys the series and his first 2 attempts were great. Heres hoping for a a great addition to the series, though I really wish they would leave school behind and focus on other adventures with other mutants- its not like there are no choices left! More

RE: Bryan Singer Talks X-Men: First Class
Who will play Xavier? If they bring back Paddy Stewart then that means they are going to piss around with that weird de-ageing CGI again.   Not quite willing to write this one off yet though (a lot of people though the first X movie was going to be shite before they saw it) And Singer hasn't made an actual bad movie yet. Superman was , at worst , average. and even that was well directed, just didn't have a strong enough story.   Young X men could be a good way to launch a to More
