As reported yesterday, director Bryan Singer will be returning to the X-Men fold with origins story First Class, based on the limited comics series by Jeff Parker. The Hollywood Reporter has now also announced the film's screenwriter, and it's Jamie Moss.

Something of an unknown quantity, Moss has rarely appeared on our radar before: as writer of the quite-good Keanu cop thriller Street Kings, the possible Ron Howard Iraq war project Last Man Home, and as the guy who was replaced by Shutter Island's Laeta Kalogridis for the in-development Dreamworks re-jig of Ghost in the Shell. 

All swings and roundabouts and par for the course in Hollywood terms though: Moss will himself be replacing The OC's Josh Schwartz on what seems to be a page-one First Class restart. Poor Josh. He was even offered the director's chair at one point.

The story focuses on the early days of the Xavier School For the Gifted, so expect Young Cyclops, Young Jean Grey and Young Beast, but no Wolverine. Sniktless.
