Weaving, Serkis & McKellen For Hobbit
Elrond, Gollum & Gandalf will return!

12 June 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: The One Ring.net

Here's one to file under, "Well, duh! But also good". Guillermo del Toro told Radio 5, as picked up by The One Ring.net, that Sir Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis and Hugo Weaving would be appearing in The Hobbit.

It won't come as any great surprise to, well, anyone, but it is welcome news that those members of the Lord of the Rings cast who also appear in The Hobbit will be playing the roles they originated in Del Toro's sort-of prequel to Jackson's trilogy.

We're due a Bilbo casting announcement any day now, but we hope that this tidbit of almost-news will keep you going until then.

RE: Timbre
L: waltham1979 I'm reading The Hobbit to my son at the moment and when I read out Smaug's dialogue I had Laurance Fishburns voice pop into my head...ello there old adversary es Laurence Fishburne could certainly do the voice of Smaug the Dragon. The character is imposing and frightening, it should be voiced by one who has a certain authority and deepness to their voice. Clearly this would require the casting of a mature older man, 50 years of age or older. Sam Elliott may be suitable? I've n More

L: Emyr Thy King I like the suggestion of Guy Pearce, a serious actor and one who would delve deepply into his character. I would also like Michael Sheen to be in the two films. Either of the names I mentioned could play a dwarf or Bard the bowman? Philip Madoc as Gloin? In regards to the voice of Smaug, Christopher Lee could certainly do it but then he's already voiced Saruman and as others have said, his voice is too "familiar". RE: Beorn
I'm sure I read somewhere that there were rumblings of Pearlman being cast in a role. If this is true, I would assume that character would be Beorn. It could have just as easily been a blog that was expressing hope for him being cast. More

RE: Bilbo
They really should get Leonard Nimoy on board, he could just follow whoever is playing Bilbo around. He doesnt have to talk (although his great voice might add something to the film), all he has to sing this over and over and over again.....   www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC73PHdQX04p; Now tell me that wouldnt make for an awesome movie? p;     More

Unless they blend and mix. But I dont want to hear Smaug and think Saruman and Count Dooku. To Bildo, hey have a fella playing young Bilbo in the FOTR flashbacks?ote] No , that was Ian Holm with a different wig on . Anton Yelchin for Bilbo i say . More

L: crazymoviesdude No, you're right, it isn't because he can't be bothered, and a correction: he's 87, he doesn't want to fly back and forth to the other side of the world as his age. Would you? rankly, yes. It would mean that I could. 87, though. That's quite an age. I thought he was 78. I'd heard that they were thinking of greenscreening him in London, presumably as Saruman. It would be nice to have something filmed here. Other than PJ's hand pointing at the map, that is. More

L: Timon It's already been reported that Christopher Lee will be voicing Smaug as he won't be reprising his role as Saruman as he can't be bothered to go to NZ for several months. aaah! Seriously? That's such an unimaginative choice. Im sure it's not 'cause he can't be bothered. He is nearly 80. They probably won't let him on the plane! More

I'd rather an unknown for Bilbo, Freeman would be terrible, he's far too knowing, not innocent enough. As for Smaug and Thorin, I'm not at all sure. More
