Pixar Sequels Are Go!
Monsters Inc. 2 joins roster

08 June 2009  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Jim Hill Media

It was apparently top secret info, told in confidence to buyers at the Licencing International Expo 2009 (a Las Vegas trade fair where studios hawk their upcoming wares), but the news that a sequel to Monsters Inc. is in development at Pixar, alongside Cars 2 and Toy Story 3, could not be contained.

There are few other details as yet, aside from the fact of original director Pete Docter's involvement. Docter's Up is currently doing rather well on US screens, and we're intrigued to see what he can do with the same characters a few years on. After all, Pixar's only sequel to date was the utterly ace Toy Story 2, so there's a high bar there to vault over.

The same source also reports that Disney / Bruckheimer Western The Lone Ranger has now taken precedence over Pirates of the Caribbean 4, which has been bumped to summer 2012. Yo-ho Silver!

RE: Incredibles 2
Im certainly very much looking forward to Monsters inc and Toy Story sequels. Monsters Inc I fell in love with the first time I saw it up on the big screen. So original... and it left so much room for a sequel, Im so glad they're getting around to it finally!   And Toy Story 3 should be one of the most eagerly awaited sequels of next year!!! More

Incredibles 2
Great news about a sequel to Monsters Inc as more Sully is always a good thing. A sequel to Cars is so great as the first Cars wasn't that hot, but another chance for Jeremy Clarksonr to do his London/Yank Jewish agent voice is always welcome. But Incredibles 2 is the most sought after as The Incredibles was a bona fide classic. More

But...
Really, we all want to know hen there will be a sequel to The Incredibles. That's the most obvious choice for follow ups. They even set it up at the end of the first movie... More

I'm sure they wouldn't do a sequel unless they really had a good idea, and it'll be nice to revisit Mike and Sully (and, I'm guessing, a much older Boo). But surely the most sequel-friendly Pixar film is The Incredibles? And with the whole history of comic books to draw on for inspiration, they could do something brilliant. More

never mind cars and monsters inc we want a sequel to the best pixar film - the incredibles More

Of course, all my instincts tell me that creating a sequel for one of the greatest animated films of all time is risky business. But then you remember that it's Pixar and that they don't seem to be able to do anything but make pure cinematic magic so it becomes, by far, the best news of the week :D More

I surely hope not, though with 3 sequels and only 2 original projects in the works, it coudl well be shifting that way. More

I gather they have finally exhausted the decent original ideas so are now revisiting past glories? More

Worry
I'm worried. I have very little doubt about whether all Pixar's sequels will rock just as much as Toy Story 2, but now, they are developing 3 sequels, which is only 1 less than the evil Dreamworks. My moral high-horse just turned into a donkey!!! More

Get in! Monsters Inc. was fantastic, hopefully the sequel will be just as good. . . More
