New Star Trek Trailer Live
Lots more hints about what's in store

06 March 2009  |  Written by Helen O'Hara  |  Source: Apple Trailers

submit to reddit

Oh boy oh boy! The new Star Trek trailer is online and it's a doozy. It's got a few more plot details, some more hints about how Kirk actually ended up a Captain, and lots and lots of action. Also, smooching. Click here to check it out.

It opens with Bruce Greenwood's Captain Christopher Pike telling us a bit about James T. Kirk Sr. "Your father was captain of a starship for twelve minutes. He saved 800 lives, including yours. I dare you to do better. Enlist in Starfleet." So no pressure then.

The bulk of the trailer though is a montage of some rather spiffing-looking action scored by some seriously Dark Knight-sounding chords. It's official: we're excited. Obviously we were before - but now we've counted the days on the calendar and are currently working out how many minutes that is. Star Trek is released on May 8: if the earliest possible showing is noon, how long is that?

RE: OOOOOOOOOOHHHHH
Just got back from seeing Watchmen. There was a slighty different version of this shown before it. There's a brief exchange between Kirk and Uhura which replaces the shot of Spock and Uhura's embrace and a couple either side of it (If I remember right) and the font used at the end is different) anyone else see anuthing different or am I the only one sad enough? RE: cheesy
I saw this today and I gotta say, up until this point I have actively avoided anything star trek related. I have vague memories of seeing a star trek film with Malcolm McDowell that was relatively passable as entertainment but other than that the general tripe that I see on TV makes me feel physically ill to think about... Not to mention the whole buzz about this movie up to this point seemed a little laughable to me, I guess the same way I would have laughed the first time they said they were More

RE: Star Trek Trailer
Doesnt all of the "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another LIFE" relate to the prequel comments and the fact that Nero has come back in time to stop certain events in the Federation timeline happening??   I was under the impression that this also links to the inclusion of certain Next Gen people (Captain Data maybe?) and an "event" that has happened in the Romulan Star Empire forcing Nero to come back and be the hero/anti-hero shaping how the Federation interacts etc etc. More

Holy Sweet Mother of the Divine...
I've just had to watch this again and again and again all morning. I had faith in JJ Abrahms as a director and hoped to God he was going to do the franchise some justice, but this is just stunning... RE: Star Trek Trailer
Quality trailer. I thought Nero looked shit when i first saw him but the lines he delivers here are awesome, particularly the venom in his voice as he screams "fire everything". Also, i'm glad they've branched out and finally included alien looking creatures rather than relying soley on humans painted every colour of the rainbow. More

L: christofurr Actually, he said "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was another LIFE" so I think he's just refering to his daddykins. But if I'm wrong that'd be a great way to shut up all the hardcore trekkies who see Shatner as the one and only kirk; 'it's ok guys, its in a parallel world! More so than Watchmen( that I'm seeing tonight!). Check the prequel comics that are available on Amazon....this will explain the story behind that little quote. L: Hochopepa A very interesting bit towards the end someone (I think Bana's character) says "James T. Kirk was a great man, but that was a different world". Good trailer for what may be an okay nfilm
Like most of JJ Abrhams he knows how to start it well but can he truly deliver the finishing punch. Lost, MI:3, his story on Cloverfield and the X-Files wannane Fringe are all okay but he seems to leave how they end to someone/s else. I'm sure Star Trek will be a enjoyable romp and I'll look forward to seeing it, but I'll hold my excitement for Inglourious Basterds, The Expendables and Public Enemies. More
