Two More For Spielberg's Chicago 7
Colin Hanks and Jeff Daniels on board

14 January 2008  |  Written by Olly Richards  |  Source: CHUD

Those fine folks over at CHUD.com scored a scoop on a couple more names for Steven Spielberg's Chicago 7, the story of the trial following violent protests at the 1968 Democratic rally. They say that Colin Hanks has been offered the role of Dave Dellinger, "an SDS activist who was interested in political change rather than wholesale social change". Also, Jeff Daniels has been approached to play one of the oldest defendants in the case.

If these two have been offered roles, then it's almost certain that they'll end up in the final movie. Rare is the man who says no to Spielberg. We would love to see these two join a movie that is shaping up for a potentially brilliant cast. According to an earlier Vanity Fair story, Philip Seymour Hoffman is also on board and Will Smith and Kevin Spacey are potentials.

The one disappointing note struck in CHUD's story is that the casting of Sacha Baron Cohen as Abbie Hoffman may not be a done deal yet. No details on why are given, but we really hope he ends up in the final film. Cohen is clearly an amazing actor (show us a better  and more committed comedy performance than Borat) and we'd love to see if he can translate that to drama.

Cast of the year!
Whilst I'm still waiting for Lincoln (I'm worried The Berg will end up dropping it, like Geisha) this is shaping up superbly. It looks like it could be an early contender for film of 2009! More
