Revenge Of The Nerds Scrapped
The odd are no longer getting even

22 November 2006  |  Written by   |  Source: Variety

Fox Atomic's planned remake of eighties college comedy Revenge Of The Nerds has been transferred to the rubbish heap. The film was due to be released next summer, but ran into problems this month when Atlanta's Emory University, the chosen location for the shoot, pulled out of the project.

The original 1984 movie starred then new-boy Anthony Edwards and Robert Carradine as The Nerds' leading force in the fight against the Alpha Beta jock fraternity. Chris Marquette, Katie Cassidy and Jenna Dewan were all set to star in the 2007 remake, but this major halt in prodcution means the computer studies geek-boys will have to keep their weapons of revenge - a Deep Heat-laced jock strap springs to mind - stored away in their clearly marked drawers.

Kaloo Kalay! Of course, there's still plenty of time for another fraternity movie that has no relevance in this country to make its mark. Why are American high school/college movies so successful over here anyway? Secondary school isn't as funny, what with all the happy slapping, sexual assaults on video phones, solvent abuse and drug-addled teenagers thinking they're bucking the system by wearing slightly-off black trousers that contradict the school's uniform code. Wait... I might have a crack More

i'm a nerd and i'm pretty proud of it
Surely this is a good thing? Why would anyone remake this film? It's only 22 years old, i think a lot of the charm of this movie is the fact that its so 80s, plus you just can't make them like this anymore, the world has changed! That's why we'll never get another Big Trouble in Little China... cynicism More
