Tonight's Not The Night For Muccino
Another director leaves Smith film

18 May 2006  |  Written by   |  Source: Variety

There’s something about Will’s Smith’s superhero drama Tonight, He Comes that’s seriously scaring directors away.

First T3’s Jonathan Mostow legs it from the job. Now his replacement – Gabriele Muccino, who had struck up a great working relationship with Big Willie on The Pursuit Of Happyness – has also decided that the film’s not for him. He’s departed in what trade mag Variety terms an “amicable” split.

Despite the fact that the film is once again a headless chicken, Sony still plans to make the film next year. Filling the void will be Smith’s work on Warner Bros’ I Am Legend remake. Now all Sony needs to do is find a new director. Our advice? Take the novelty sign that reads, “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” from the director’s office in the development building.
