Steve Carell recently lost his leading man virginity with the success of The 40 Year Old Virgin at the US box office – a success we expect it to repeat when it hits these shores today. But no sooner had the movie hit number one in the US than he announced his plans to make another story of a man dealing with unfamiliar feelings, in High T (read the story here). And when we talked to Carell recently, he told us a little bit more about the project.
"High T is a very funny concept, about a guy who – due to an accident – loses all the testosterone in his body," said Carell. "So he has to take testosterone injections, which make him extremely aggressive for two days, then for two days he's normalised, then for the next three days or so he becomes extremely soft and sensitive and likes to bake quiche."
Ah, yes, quiche baking – it doesn't get much more sensitive than that. But how does the story develop from there?
"It's sort of a Jekyll and Hyde story, about how he falls in love with this woman and needs to figure out how to manage all of his mood swings within that."
The film's still only at the script stage, and Carell has another four films at various stages of production - Get Smart, a spy spoof; beauty pageant comedy Little Miss Sunshine; animated animal antics in Over The Hedge and Bruce Almighty sequel Evan Almighty. Rest assured, we'll be keeping an eye on this king of comedy as he moves forward, but in the meantime, you can read the rest of our interview with Steve Carell here. |
