Clothes And Chlorine
Exclusive: Ray Liotta on Revolver, Dungeon Siege and Demi Moore

02 September 2005  |  Written by

Some days you have earth shattering news, and some days, well, you just get stuff that's amusing. It's funny. It makes you laugh. It's there to amuse you, like a clown… ahem. Anyway, we caught up with GoodFella Ray Liotta recently, and in the course of conversation he let slip on a few of the less conventional aspects of character development, mostly involving the couture arts.

When we got onto the upcoming Dungeon Siege, the actor mentioned certain, shall we say, discomforts in his assigned outfit. "I’m not so keen on the costume — I gotta wear a lot of leather." Riiiiight. Which presumably must have been Liotta's sentiment exactly when he saw the outfit for the first time. "Usually I take costumes home at the end of the shoot as momentos. This leather- I’ll take it, but I sure as hell am not gonna wear it." Yes, this would be the Dungeon Siege being made by Uwe Boll - he of Alone In The Dark and Bloodrayne fame / notoriety.

Coincidentally, Ray's character in Guy Ritchie's Revolver shares a similar trait – sort of. "Well, he doesn’t wear a lot of clothes. He likes wearing this little swimming costume, and he’s a mean guy. When he goes up against somebody, he goes up against them, if you know what I mean." Ray is playing the bad guy again – a man named Dorothy Macha. "Revolver is an amazing film, it really is. A lot of really crazy action, you guys are gonna love it."

At least in Chlorine he's playing a nice, conservative banker. Ok, it's a banker in the '80s. For some reason we felt compelled to ask about big hair. "Ha ha! It's not a mullet, or pleats or anything like that, no." Damn.

He plays the husband to Demi Moore in the film, which focuses on the zenith of that deacade's greed culture. "Demi's no mutton chop. She plays my wife, who gets kind of upset at my lack of nous with money. It’s a great character piece, but also really about the period — it takes in the Savings & Loan scandal and a whole lot of stuff."

Revolver is just weeks away, while Dungeon Siege and Chlorine are set for release in 2006.
