It's a good day for IRA Zombies! Not only have we learned that horror films are all the rage, but it appears that films written by people who write for film websites are the latest Hollywood trend. What are we talking about? Well, two young lads named Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan (aka Moriarty and Obi-Swan) have sold their screenplay of Race With the Devil to producer Chris Moore, who's making his directorial debut with the film.
The project is a remake of the 1975 horror / thriller of the same name. That starred Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, Loretta Swit and Lara Parker as two vacationing couples, who witness a Satanic ritual in the woods. Pursued by the devil-worshippers, they run for it – but it soon becomes clear that pretty much all the locals are involved, in a Wicker Man-stylee. With the Satanists in pursuit, the two couples make a run for it, setting up some spectacular car chases and a bit with rattlesnakes that scared the willies out of Empire when we were but nippers.
That's right – devil worshippers and car chases and (going by the original film at any rate) naked people dancing about and jiggling. This has "cult" written all over it. Director Chris Moore may be familiar to some readers as the Mr Nasty on Matt 'n' Ben's Project Greenlight, but don’t worry. He knows all about horror stories after his involvement with Reindeer Games.
So congratulations to the Ain't It Cool bods for getting their picture made. Now it can only be a matter of time before someone comes knocking on our door, asking about our unproduced gem, IRA Zombies. Or Lethal Tender. Stupid Vampires? Anyone? |
