An Unbreakable Sequel?
M. Night Shyamalan talks Unbreakable 2 and Indiana Jones IV

You’d be forgiven for thinking M. Night Shyamalan the indecisive type. Having stated decisively that there was no room for a sequel to Unbreakable, the director has now said that a second instalment may be on the cards. In an interview on Dark Horizons, Shyamalan stated that the recent success of the American DVD release of Unbreakable has increased the likelihood of a sequel getting greenlighted.

"I have been in contact with the studio about this,” said Shyamalan. “Initially they declined a sequel because the film did not really perform like the Sixth Sense. But after the success of the DVD set, they are a little more receptive to the idea. I was always kind of mixed about the prospect of doing a sequel but I had always had little treatments here and there I had jotted down while I was making the first."

Rumours that Bruce Willis was in early negotiations to reprise his role as reluctant superhero David Dunn have spread since the news was broken by an American radio station. Whether this is true or not, Shyamalan believes Willis would be up for the role. "I would like to see Bruce exploring his powers a bit more, perhaps even becoming over eager to use them. I have talked with him about it and he said he would love to return to the character. Sam, however, has so much going on, I am not sure if we could get him or not. I love the idea of bringing Sam back and having him take in another villain, and train him to do the things he is not capable of doing because of his disability. He would use the pages of his comics to construct the villain himself. Those characters are all so wonderful, it would be cool. But you never know, one day they say ‘no’ and I say ‘Ahh come on’ and the next day it's the other way around.”

It also looks as though Shyamalan’s previously reported work on Indiana Jones IV has failed to get off the ground, but he seems confident that the film will shape-up nicely without him: "I was never contacted formally to do the project, I did publicly express interest, but nothing really ever came to fruition. They have their ideas and I of course as a fan, have ideas of how they should do it. They will get it done, I just don't think it will be completed for some time. It will probably be the biggest film ever made, I think it would even topple Star Wars and Titanic at this point."
