Possible Future DC Movies Slate Revealed
Seven films in two years?

13 June 2014  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: Nikki Finke

submit to reddit

Zack-Snyder-On-For-Justice-League

Barely a week after launching her new website with an excoriating editorial explaining why she's different to the rest of the internet, ex-Deadline honcho Nikki Finke has "broken" an unsourced rumour about future comic book movies. Take this with a pinch of the same salt you use for Latino Review scoops then, but if this apparent leak of Warner Bros. plans is to believed, we can expect a further six DC comics movies in the two years following Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

The schedule, according to source, runs thusly:

  • Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice - May 2016
  • Shazam! - July 2016
  • Sandman - Christmas 2016
  • Justice League - May 2017
  • Wonder Woman - July 2017
  • Flash / Green Lantern team-up - Christmas 2017
  • Man Of Steel 2 - May 2018

The Flash and Green Lantern will, we're told, make their first appearances as cameos in Dawn Of Justice. Green Lantern will not be Ryan Reynolds, but The Flash will presumably be Grant Gustin's current TV incarnation.

It's the first we've heard of the Lantern/Flash project, and the first we've heard for a long time about Shazam! (which is an interesting one because he's also known as Captain Marvel, potentially a bone of contention with Marvel/Disney). Opening two months after Batman V Superman? Really?

Others we did know were developing, although they hadn't been dated quite this firmly. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and David S. Goyer are at work on adapting Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics; and Zack Snyder is jumping straight into Justice League after its Dawn.

As already much publicised, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will make her debut in Dawn. She'll certainly be busy with the character if Justice League and her first stand-alone are really coming out within two months of each other. Fascinating too that Superman, in this reality, will be waiting five years for a proper sequel; Batman Vs Superman is clearly distinguished here from Man Of Steel 2. Also, no more Batman yet?

Missing from the list is any mention of Fables, Metal Men, 100 Bullets or Dark Universe (although Finke believes Metal Men has entirely fallen through for the time being).

So, plausible or poppycock? Give us your thoughts in the comments below. We'll likely learn something solid when DC/Warners take the stage at Comic-Con next month.

RE: Possible Future DC Movies Slate Revealed
The only positive I can think of is that with DC properly in the picture, Marvel is gonna have to up their game, especially if you're having films open on the same day which is what you have with Batman V Superman and Captain America 3. Edit - no sales links please. More

L: Oroborous All of them directed by Zack Snyder. nyder will direct Batman v Superman (May 2016), Justice League (May 2017) and presumably Man of Steel 2 (May 2018)... If it's true, they'll have to shoot these three movies together... This is why they were already filming BvS two full years before its release. More

Shazam
I don't Disney/Marvel will be able todo much about Shazam. The Captain Marvel pre-dates the name Marvel Comics by almost 20 years. He first appeared 1940, Whiz Comics No 1. They renamed the company Marvel Comics in 1959. Personnelly I'm looked forward to DC's run of films. It is about time they caught up with Marvel. More

RE: Possible Future DC Movies Slate Revealed
I could get behind a Wonder Woman movie, her origin story is interesting. Her character was created in the 1940's and was originally pitted against the Nazis. I can't believe they're gonna do another Green Lantern movie though Yuk! More

"...but The Flash will presumably be Grant Gustin's current TV incarnation." No, Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, and multiple other DC mouthpieces have repeatedly stated in interviews and press releases that any Flash theatrical film will be completely independent of the current TV series, so the Flash in the 2017 film will NOT be Grant Gustin. You fellow readers will believe anything haha hink if you read the article you will see Empire says that the whole thing is a rumor and fairly unlikely... More

Gasping for air
can't breathe with all the samey comic book movies.... really why did this niche audience suddnely hijack all of mainstream cinema? With all the DC and Marvel films lined up, it sounds like they're producing mini series passed off as movies. Will we ever get another Inception in our cinemas again? More

Truck of salt
Sounds like a load of rubbish to me. Not saying these films won't happen, but the order and time frame sound very questionable. They might pull it off, but I doubt it. Still, I'll see them all, obviously. More

RE: DC blowing their load to quickly
Batman is DC's main breadwinner. Given their current published comics, Batman, and those directly related to Batman has nearly twice as many publications as does Superman and its related properties. Wonder Woman only has a singular comic.... Really, in the scheme of things, its the Green Lanterns that are DC's third biggest sellers. So its a little too obvious DC is trying to shoehorn in stuff to try and bump its popularity. As for Sandman, I agree with Rob2175. It better not be 'kidified' More

Arrow?
I find it weird that one of the success stories of the current DC lot is not getting a film - Green Arrow. Like him or loathe him, the viewing figures are there. Also, like everyone else on this feed, it is starting to look like comic book overkill. This bubble is gonna burst with a bang! More

RE: DC blowing their load to quickly
It's not the same technique Marvel did, but to be honest it's refreshing to see them not copy their competition play for play. Even though they still aren't going wildly original. More

DC blowing their load to quickly
I agree with GriZBe focus on stand alone films for characters featuring in the JLA film. They should be focusing at the mo on Man of Steel sequels. I thought Man of Steel was pretty good. Not concentrating on mash ups and do we need another Batman film so soon after the Nolan trilogy. I don't think so! Sandman had better not be a kiddie friendly version either as the graphic novels are not catered for the kids. More

Bloody hell
Too many superhero films! They're basically the same shit each year. Nolan's were great and Snyder's MoS was okay but these are just gonna suck. Friggin' Marvel's fault. More

Playing Catch Up...
Its starting to look really obvious that DC is doing whatever it can to try and catch up to Marvel... and doing it badly. They were going in the right direction with the Dark Knight films, but now its starting to feel like they're grasping at straws rather then sitting down and doing things properly. The Wonder Woman etc movies should be coming before the Justice League movie. You need to introduce characters properly, or you end up just not caring about them.... (See any x-men movie ever whe More
