Gotham Gets Its First Trailer

gotham tv show gets cast photo

As if there was any doubt, Fox has picked up its Gotham pilot as a full TV series, and in celebration here's the first trailer. Ben McKenzie stars as the early-career Jim Gordon in the Before-Batman crime drama, with support from Jada Pinkett Smith, Donal Logue, and David Mazouz as the young Bruce Wayne.

Plenty to muse on there, with Gordon walking his mean streets for the first time and Bruce enduring a formative tragedy in Crime Alley (note the sneaky bat symbol...).

As promised, there's plenty of attention for nascent versions of most of the famous villains too. Camren Bicondova is Selena "Catwoman" Kyle (perhaps more anti-heroine than villain); Clare Foley is "Poison" Ivy Pepper; Cory Michael Smyth is a certain Mr E. Nygma; and we get a good chunk of Penguin origin story, with Oswald Cobblepot here imagined as a clammy street thug played by Robin Taylor.

There's no sign of The Joker yet; rumour has it he'll show up as a comedian in the club belonging to Smith's crime boss Fish Mooney. And we have only the briefest glimpse of Sean Pertwee, who'll be playing Bruce Wayne's butler, guardian and mentor Alfred Pennyworth.

Danny Cannon (CSI, Judge Dredd) is the director of what we have so far, but there's no air date for the pilot or start date for the full series. We will, of course, keep you posted.

Matt Smith for the Joker!
Very impressed with this trailer, young Jim Gordon seems to be channelling Russell Crowe in LA Confidential (kinda looking like him too). He'll probably try the white knight thing to begin with, but gradually realise that you have to fight dirty to clean up Gotham, maybe even getting a little corrupted as (if!) the series progresses, paving the way for the arrival of the Dark Knight, and Gordon's acceptance of him, ultimately becoming his ally. That being said, Batman better show up at some poin More

RE: RE:
L: BelfastBoy Honest first impression - who cares? I get the concept but Gotham City without outlandish criminals and Batman to fight them is like a Jason Bourne film without that character and starring Jeremy Renner... On a related note, why the obsession with filling in every possible gap with prequel / backstory stuff? Why can nothing be left to the imagination? I'm guessing it's really because there's no original ideas left these days and so any 'successful' or enduring franch More

Looks awesome.
Specially cos it's got the geezer out of the OC in it. He's normally pretty good. Makes a nice change to have a different crime series. Stop moaning you ruddy perfectionists. Embrace the fact they're actually doing something different. More

Fox? I don't know
It's touch and go, will have to see it though. It could have great potential but it needs to be mean, gritty. The Batman trilogy had the right formula for that, but Gotham as a TV show? Wait and see. #Bane More

While this trailer has enough to get me potentially interested in this series, I still think doing a version of the Gotham Central comic series would have been a better route to go down. More

Ivy Who??
Okay.. who the heck is Ivy Pepper? Poison Ivy is, and has always been Pamela Isley. I've got a bad feeling they're gonna screw up a lot of established history here just to make 'good' tv. More

bat lite
Oh great its on Fox, ill give it 12 episodes before its cancelled. Especially as it looks great, i hope they don't go too far with the Bat villains though, and it seems like while some would be a good fit, (penguin or two face) I really dont want to see the Joker before he emerges. More
