First Trailer For Richard Linklater's Boyhood
Two minutes, 12 years in the making

It’s a time in the year when awards buzz tends to end up as a whistle in the wind but, if early word is to be believed, Richard Linklater’s Boyhood may be different. The feeling on this one is that it may just percolate in the (notoriously goldfish) memories of Academy voters for long enough to make an impression next March. Time will tell, but for now the film has a first trailer to enjoy. Watch it in full below.

Twelve years in the making, Boyhood stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, Lori Linklater and, most especially, Ellar Coltrane, who grows up before our eyes. Working from a script written by Richard Linklater, the director and his cast and crew have reconvened every year since 2002 (when Ellar was seven) to spend a few weeks shooting the story of a family anchored around Mason (Ellar) and his sister Samantha (Lori Linklater).

Sundance critics hailed it “a unique work in American cinema” and “an audacious feat of filmmaking” – and you don’t get that from Last Vegas. See what the fuss is about when Boyhood gets its UK release on July 11.
