Many fine things are contained with the pages of Empire's 25th birthday issue – on sale on March 27 – and not the least of them a genuinely exciting behind-the-scenes look at Dawn of The Planet Of The Apes. It's not often you get shepherded on set to witness a mo-cap action sequence coming together, so it's a pleasure to share this look at Toby Kebbell's alpha ape, Koba, riproaring his way through a scene at the Ape Village. Guns, as this photo indicates, will play a crucial role on both sides of the ape/human chasm this time out. Click below for a closer look.
A decade on from the first reboot, Dawn finds Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his bepawed cohorts holed up in the Ape Village, distant from human survivors, and are trying to establish a new community for themselves. "It's an ape civilisation movie," Reeves exclusively told Empire. "It's a world you haven't seen before, which is all about: what would these intelligent apes do if they returned to the wild and tried to create a place for their family... and then grow?"
Jason Clarke is Malcolm, a former architect who reaches out to the apes, possibly hoping to establish a fragile pax between ape and human worlds. As you can see from the trailer, this will be no easy task.
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes hits UK cinemas on July 17. Pick up the new edition of Empire on March 27 for an exclusive on-set report.
