New Trailer For The Signal
Massive Fishburne!

21 March 2014  |  Written by James White

We're not gonna sugarcoat it, students don't have a good survival rate in movie road trips. Bad things befall them in a variety of ways even the horrors of freshers' week don't adequately prepare them for. And William 'Love' Eubank's eerie-scary tarmac flick The Signal may not be an exception to that rule of thumb – at least, not if its new trailer is anything to go by.

The film's central premise has Laurence Fishburne's computer boffin luring three students and fellow hackers to a location somewhere in the Nevada boondocks. Said hacker goes by the pseudonym ‘Nomad' and has malice very much aforethought. The trio (Beau Knapp, Olivia Cooke and Maleficent's Brenton Thwaites) wake up from to discover things taking a turn for the disturbing. Not least the sight of Captain Miller from Event Horizon in a hazmat suit. And we don't think he's cooking meth.

It's a suitably intriguing trailer, mixing glitchy sound design with a nice sense of eerieness and the baffled-fish-out-of-water horror themes that are so unnerving in films like Cube and, to a more extreme extent, Hostel and Wolf Creek.

This one heads into US movie theatres on June 13 via Focus Features. Word on a UK release as soon as it lands on these shores.
