Though the highest priorities on his to-do list right now are the pilot for US TV drama Scorpion and the sequel to The Bourne Legacy, Justin Lin is still pondering other potential projects. Focus Features has nabbed the rights to the script Times Square for him to handle.
Written by Taylor Materne and Jacob Rubin, Times Square is a crime thriller set in the days when the titular New York centrepiece was more a squalid, porn-happy, crime-ridden dump than the brightly lit, Disney-sponsored family-friendly venue it is today.
Against that backdrop a young man finds his loyalties split between the neighbourhood crime boss that raised him and the ex-cop who has sworn to protect him. And then a secret from his past comes rattling back to haunt him...
When this might shoot is anyone’s guess; and Lin has been attached to several projects without actually taking the job before. Plus there are a variety of other films awaiting his attention, including Toymageddon and true-life tale L.A. Riots, which boasts a script from 12 Years A Slave’s John Ridley.
