Channing Tatum Eyeing Jo Nesbø Thriller
You have the right... to make a movie

Channing Tatum

Not just an actor, funnyman, dancer, Lego Superman, and pourer-of-boiling-water-down-his-pants, Channing Tatum is also a producer with TV and movie projects on the go. And according to Deadline, one of those Tatum marques, Iron Horse Entertainment, is now circling Nordic crime writer Jo Nesbø’s The Son.

Tatum and his production partner Reid Carolin were spotted breaking herring with the Norwegian novelist in an Olso restaurant. Deadline’s skinny has Tatum and Carolin potentially co-directing, as well as producing alongside Langley Park’s Kevin McCormick. Nesbø and literary agent Niclas Salomonsson will exec produce.

There’s no script yet – heck, the book is only published this week – but such a document would likely focus on an man who escapes from the prison he’s been wrongly incarcerated in as stooge to the real villains. He'll then set about avenging his father’s murder. Unless they decide to tell a completely different story. But that would be weird.

The book was picked up by Warner Bros. and Langley Park back in 2012, no doubt conscious of Nesbø’s mega-selling success and growing rep in movie circles. Headhunters grabbed the attention in 2012, while his novel The Snowman is in development at Working Title with Martin Scorsese potentially involved. Leonardo DiCaprio has been circling his pseudonymous yarn Blood On Snow.

There’s no word yet on whether Tatum will appear in the film, although who wouldn’t be happy to see him busting out of the joint and bringing the pain to some n’er-do-wells? A busy-looking Tatum slate currently has Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, 22 Jump Street and Jupiter Ascending on the way. More on The Son as it comes in.
