Domhnall Gleeson & More Up For The Fantastic Four's Dr. Doom
Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne and Toby Kebbell in the running

Domhnall-Gleeson-&0more-up-for-Fantastic-Four-Doom

With the long slog of casting rumours for the new Fantastic Four themselves now behind us, we can enjoy the relatively quick sprint of the rest of the cast falling into place. But there’s still time for some more speculation and shortlist exploration, with The Wrap bringing word that Domhnall Gleeson, Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne and Toby Kebbell are the four actors Fox is seriously considering to play the heroes’ enemy, Doctor Doom.

While the masked villain traditionally hails from the fictional nation of Latveria, it appears the studio is looking to the very real British Isles for its contenders. All four have some level of heat about them, and have proved their acting chops in recent outings.

Gleeson was last seen in About Time and has Calvary (alongside his father Brendan), Unbroken and Ex Machina in his future - and Calvary at least sees him on darker form than we've seen before. Riley appeared in Byzantium and will be part of Suite Francaise and Maleficent. Les Miserables veteran Redmayne will crop up in the Wachowskis’ next sci-fi brain-twister Jupiter Ascending, while Kebbell logged The Counsellor and The East last year and will be seen in Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes. He’s currently shooting Warcraft for Duncan Jones.

Whoever nabs the Doom role, they’ll be facing off against Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell as the titular team, with director Josh Trank and producers Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn clearly looking for younger talent that have shown the ability to carry dramatic films. With shooting set for this year, The Fantastic Four will be out on June 18, 2015.

Which of these actors do you want to play Doctor Doom?
Domhnall Gleeson
Sam Riley
Eddie Redmayne
Toby Kebbell
None of them. I will offer my choice in the comments.

The casting choices for this movie (Fantastic Four) are just getting curiouser and curiouser! More

Pointless?
Right; I'm nailing my colours to the mast here. I really liked the previous two FF movies. They were perfect comic book superhero films - they were ludicrous, exciting, fast, (occasionally) funny - I have never understood where the ire came from that was aimed so squarely at both films. Admittedly not from Empire, which gave both films a solid if unspectacular three stars (the 'Meh' of movie reviews, alas), but largely the films proved underwhelming with both critics and audiences, who didn't re More

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Older than the four mentioned above, but still youthful enough to draw the crowds, because audiences are only interested in youth aren't they! Don't think he would chew the furniture with his performance either. More

HMMMPHHHH.....
Well ........they did say that they were going to go young.......and I guess that goes for Dr. Doom as well...........just can't get excited about any of this so far..........why don't Fox just call it the Ultimate 4 and have done with it? More

Toby 'why the fuck haven't I been in more great roles/films' Kebbell for sure out of this 4. Otherwise a 3rd vote for Mikkelsen More

Kebbell all the way ...
He's the most experienced and, out of the four, looks the most like he could be from Eastern Europe. Done! More

Misunderstanding
Seems to be some confusion about what this movie is. I have no real stake in this or any real expectations but objectively speaking I thought its an adaptation of Ultimate FF, which means all the characters will be young. Reed is a prodigious young scientist, etc.... All of them are capable young actors and to me that's the most important thing, not stunt casting like some of the 2005 FF. Ergo making Doom, one of their contemporaries younger too works in that context...surely? Plus is More

Oh I feel old
Not being funny but it looks like a boy band off the X Factor!! They all look really young and make me feel really old. I go with 'thehiggins' vote of Mads Mikkelsen. More

Please not Domhnall Gleeson
Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad actor. He just excels at mild-mannered characters, making him very hard to picture in the role of a powerful villain. Toby Kebbell on the other hand would be a very interesting choice. More

Mads Mikkelsen would be great for Dr Doom. More

Ugh
Why a young Doctor Doom? He's the best Marvel villain, why just cast some flake? If I had to choose though it'd definitely be Kebbell and none of the others. Why is Gleeson leading the pack? I'm sorry but he's got none of the presence of his father. I would choose Michael Kelly from House Of Cards, but to be honest it's all about the voice first. Who has a good amount of bark and bass to their voice? More
