Some films in development carry titles that, while they seem funny, make you cringe slightly in anticipation for how critics and commenters will use them should the film turn out badly. Spare a moment’s concern then, for Ed Helms and the producers of Epic Fail.
Lionsgate has picked up the idea from Helms and producer Nicky Weinstock with an option for Helms to star. Mike Arnold and Chris Poole are the writers in charge of fashioning a script from the concept that follows “an elite but highly unorthodox special forces team that takes their dysfunction and excessive firepower on a desperate mission to save America,” according to the information picked up by The Hollywood Reporter. Oh, and they’re “led by the only soldier more badass and more moustachioed than a Navy SEAL, The Walrus.”
Whether this comic take on films such as Zero Dark Thirty’s military bits and, well, Navy SEALS, turns out well or gets pilloried with that title is something for the future to worry about. Helms clearly has faith in it, though first it has to make its way through development, as he has several projects bubbling away that have yet to see production, let alone the screen. The world of filmmaking can be a harsh, unforgiving place… The actor, who is also attached to star in the Naked Gun reboot, has David Wain’s romantic comedy spoof They Came Together awaiting a date and is part of the cast for Joe Carnahan’s comedy thriller Stretch, itself a victim of release limbo.
