With its title change now formally taking effect here as well as across the pond, horror thriller Deliver Us From Evil (formerly Beware The Night) has put its first trailer online. Can Eric Bana save his family and the rest of us? Take a look below and decide for yourself.

Bana stars as New York police officer Ralph Sarchie, struggling with personal issues, who begins investigating a series of disturbing and inexplicable crimes. He joins forces with an unconventional priest (Édgar Ramirez), schooled in the rituals of exorcism, to combat the frightening and demonic possessions that are terrorizing their city. It's all based on the book that details Sarchie’s bone-chilling real-life cases.

As this trailer makes clear, the horror element hits closer to home for Sarchie, especially when it affects his wife (Olivia Munn) and daughter (Lulu Wilson). Yes, director Scott Derrickson (writing with regular partner Paul Harris Boardman) here goes for that old standby, the creepy toy moment…

With Sean Harris, Joel McHale, Dorian Missick and Antoinette LaVecchia also in the cast, Deliver Us From Evil will attempt to spook us all from August 22.
