First Annie Trailer Hits The Web
Quvenzhané Wallis steps up from the streets

Yesterday we got a look at the poster for the new, Will Smith and Jay-Z-spearheaded version of warbling orphan musical Annie, which was the herald for this first trailer. To get a proper flavour for what the new version of the story looks like, take a gander below.

In what could be called a remix of the 1981 film, this Annie finds Beasts Of The Southern Wild’s breakout young star Quvenzhané Wallis as the titular moppet, this time a foster child in a home run by the mean Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). The idea that her parents might be out there somewhere adds a little spice to the tale, even as the trailer appears to give most of the story’s turns away (for the three people who didn't already know what's coming).

The updates continue beyond Annie’s situation and the modern-day setting, with Jamie Foxx as tough-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks in place of the original Daddy Warbucks, who meets our heroine and decides that being seen to help her would in turn boost his campaign. What he doesn’t count on is Annie slowly softening his heart. And after all, who could see that coming?

Rose Byrne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Bobby Cannavale round out the cast for his one with Easy A director Will Gluck re-writing the script and calling the shots. It’ll arrive on our screens on January 6 next year.

It looks fine. It's just that it has Jay-Z written all over it. And was that Aaron Paul?!?! More

Not sure what to think. I haven't seen the original film, so I can't properly reserve judgement, although Diaz looked like she was picking up the cheque. More

on the one hand, I wish to throw up, but then once I passed the age of 8, the original wanted to make me do this. plus the whole moving it to modern day reinforces the saccharine. the cast looks good, though I reserve judgement on Cameron Diaz in the role of Miss Hannigan. Mostly because the trailer doesn't show her drinking like a fish. Please don't let them neuter that bit. More

It looks sunny tomorrow
I gotta say that apart from Cameron Diaz, this looks pretty fun. Wallis looks adorable and Foxx made chuckle at the end of the trailer. It's Annie, so it is what it is but if they're going to remake it, they could do a lot worse than this. More

no gingers in brooklyn?
Have to agree with the other comments, this looks proper shit. Honestly why does Jamie Foxx agree to these kind of movies. He was brilliant in Django Unchained, sceptical about Spiderman but this is just awful. More
