Her-Speaks-To-Writers-Guild-Voters

Spike Jonze and his script for techno-romance Her got a real boost in their awards chances this weekend, as the film scored the Writers Guild Award for Original Screenplay, beating the likes of American Hustle, Blue Jasmine and Dallas Buyers Club.

Captain Phillips, adapted by Billy Ray from the titular sailor’s book (co-written with Stephan Talty), took home the Adapted Screenplay prize, while Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell scored a welcome gong for Documentary Screenplay.

There was little surprise at the Drama Series winner, as Breaking Bad easily took home both the main category and the Episodic Drama award, which went to Gennifer Hutchison for the episode Confessions. Veep took Comedy Series, while 30 Rock’s Hogcock! (written by Jack Burditt and Robert Carlock) got the Episodic Comedy prize. The Colbert Report was the big winner at Comedy/Variety and Netflix’s House Of Cards won New Series. The Last Of Us, the video game we called “the best film of the year (that wasn’t actually a film)" walked away with the Videogame gong.
