UPDATE: Everyone loves American football, right? All those big dudes running around doing the smashy-smashy ball stuff... at least, until Bane shows up and ruins it for everyone. The Superbowl is, of course, the centrepiece not just of the oval ball's sporting calendar but blockbuster promotion season, with big movies running around during its many commercial breaks doing similarly smashy-smashy movie stuff. This new Noah TV spot, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, is the first of a fair few 30-second salvoes we can expect from the biggest Hollywood has to offer this summer. Think you got wet this morning? Spare a thought for poor Noah here, a man in desperate need of Don Lockwood to suddenly show up and lend him that umbrella, as he finds himself plonked in the middle of the first apocalypse. This new Noah poster – or Noahster, if you will – is a reminder that Darren Aronofsky’s epic is coming soon to share its mysteries with us. Click below for a closer look.

Russell Crowe, of course, plays the titular builder who is inspired by a dream of the Almighty to build a mighty Ark in anticipation of a few little April showers. Jennifer Connelly is his apparently-supportive wife, Douglas Booth and Logan Lerman his sons and Anthony Hopkins his grandfather Methuselah. Emma Watson is also aboard as a friend of Booth’s Shem.

The film’s trailer gives a good feeling for the scale of the movie. It also reveals that it isn’t just the elements that Noah is up against; Ray Winstone’s barbarian has a violent horde at his disposal and he isn’t afraid to use it.

Co-written by the director and Gladiator and Skyfall scribe John Logan, it’s shaping up to be a radical reimagining not just of the Old Testament story, but of Aronofsky’s career. We’re awaiting it with great interest.

Noah lands in cinemas on April 4. Starting forming into pairs.
