Empire's First X-Men: Days Of Future Past Cover Is Here! See Trask's Robot Sentinel In Action

You may already have guessed, from tweets like this and pages like this, that we have a bit of an X-Men: Days Of Future Past surprise for you today. Well, make that surprises, starting right here with the first of 25 new Empire covers, this one showcasing an original 1970s-era Sentinel.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Sentinal Cover

This event includes more covers than we have ever done for a single film, so look out today for some exciting reveals for Bryan Singer's time-travelling mutant story, which of course unites the casts of the original X-trilogy and the more recent X-Men: First Class. All the covers will be revealed today, and you can keep up with the news on Empire's twitter account. Keep an eye on the hashtags #Empire25 and #XMen to make sure that you see it all first.

For those of you who haven't read the comics (for shame!) and are wondering what this particular cover shows, the Sentinels are powerful robots created by Trask industries specifically to hunt down - and if it comes to it, to kill - mutants. That obviously puts them at odds with the X-Men, and in a dark future ruled by the Sentinels Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart ) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) team up to send Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back in time to avert their rise. The only problem is that he'll have to convince the younger Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to help him.

Also starring Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Daniel Cudmore, Booboo Stewart, Omar Sy, Fan Bingbing, Evan Jonigkeit, Adan Canto and Josh Helman, X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits UK cinemas on May 22 and US cinemas the following day.

The new March issue of Empire hits newsstands and digital storefronts this Thursday January 30, and individual covers (or the whole lot) will also be available to buy online here. To make sure you never miss an issue, you can subscribe over here - and with our 25th birthday celebrations in full swing, there has never been a better time.

Quicksilver? WTF?
Yes, I'm a fanboy. Yes, I'm unhappy with the styling for Quicksilver. Why can't he be in his late 40's just as the comics? More
