With the Television Critics winter press tour happening at the moment, the various networks and channels in the States are wheeling out talent from their regular shows and pimping their new offerings to the gathered journalist horde. Among them is cable channel Showtime, which brought a sizzle reel for its new show, Penny Dreadful. Take a peek at the monstrous trailer.

Eva Green, John Hartnett, Josh Pence, Timothy Dalton, Josh Pence, Billie Piper, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway are in the cast for the “psychosexual horror” series sprung from the mind of Skyfall co-writer John Logan and producer/director Sam Mendes.

Set in Victorian London, it features some of literature’s most iconic characters, who become wrapped up in various mysteries. Green will be the heroine, Vanessa Ives, while Hartnett will be “fake cowboy” Ethan Chandler. Dalton plays the mysterious Sir Malcolm, while Carney is Dorian Gray and Treadaway is Victor Frankenstein.

With Sky Atlantic on board as co-producers, we can expect to see this one fairly close to the US airdate, which Showtime has just announced as May 11.
