Lawrence Kasdan Writing Boba Fett Movie?
Fully functioning jetpack not confirmed

In all the furore surrounding Star Wars Episode VII, it's possible you may have forgotten that in between the numbered sequels, Disney is also planning a series of standalone Star Wars films based around single characters from the mythology. It's been a while since we've heard any rumours about those, but here comes no less a source than Metalocalypse director and self-described "sweaty movie nerd" Jon Schnepp. He's claiming that he knows "for a fact" that one of those spin-offs will belong to Boba Fett, and that the screenplay is being written by Lawrence Kasdan.

"I know they haven't announced it," he told the host of AMC's Philippines disaster relief charity talk marathon, "but one of those one-shots is Boba Fett. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan."

This has been a rumour for some time prior to this story, and, to be frank, remains one in its wake, since there's no indication of why Schnepp would be particularly privy to this top secret information.

But it's certainly not an outlandish idea. Last spring the announcement came that Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are developing these spin-off films, with the later reveal that we're talking about origin stories. Kasdan's involvement with the series is established, and a one-shot film for fan favourite Fett would seem like a no-brainer.

There are caveats however: not least that since the announcement of the spin-offs, Kasdan has jumped tracks and become far more involved with Episode VII itself (as well, possibly, as VIII and IX). Could he still be working on a one-shot as well as the main game? Did he write a draft screenplay or treatment for an origin story and then set it aside when called to assist JJ Abrams? Will Disney's plan for a new Star Wars film every year starting in 2015 even pan out?

As usual there are many questions and no answers. But if Boba Fett (or Yoda, or IG88, or whatever) is due in 2016, expect to hear something official about it in the next twelve months.

Now watch this clip and explain to us why Boba Fett is cool exactly...

RE:
Bobba Fett... The guy they clones Stormtroopers from. Well, okay yes, his 'dad' Jango... But the point still is he's part of a legacy of failures that fans have been cracking jokes at for decades. Now while yes, I do know about all the expanded universes novelisations of him, I'm with the 'why is he cool?' crowd. He's a bounty hunter, but apart from that there was nothing really unique about him. Hell, IG-88, the bounty hunting droid has just as big a cult following, and he did nothing on More

RE: When???
L: ericcoyle When did he do these things? In which film.? Oh, in some made up out of cannon book or comic. How is he "cool" looking. All the other bounty hunters are way cooler looking. Why not make a film out of them. And he doesn't have a character. He has about three lines for God's sake. Grow up! 'm very confused - who needs to grow up? Me? The other people on the forum? Lawrence Kasdan? Jeremy Bulloch? Cos I'm pretty sure he is in his late 60's or something...maybe George Lucas sho More

RE: Why?
So we're gonna get a story about what happened between Mace Windu decapitating his Daddy and when he was taken out like a complete punk in ROTJ? Sorry - but the latter point kinda takes the sheen off of anything Kasdan can come up with! Yoda, Chewbacca and Emperor Palpatine all have the potential to have great spinoff movies made about them (especially Palpatine IMO) so why pick this helmet haired twonk for a movie of his own? How about a Wicket movie, no wait - Admiral Ackbar then...... More

RE: Why?
Why you ask? Because Boba crawled out of the Sarlacc's stomach, TWICE! He survived. Earlier he fought Vader and lived, nearly killing him. There is just tons about this character to read up on for you guys, Boba has SO MUCH STORY, and I'm happy to see a film about him. More

RE: Why?
L: ericcoyle Why would anyone want to make a film about a rubbish peripheral character who is only important in the minds of some slightly sad fanatics? What does he actually do in the films apart from get beaten really easily in a dumb joke split second moment in the third film. How many lines does he have in the whole series? And don't get started on the crappy episode one to three films. Boba Fett from planet New Zealand? 'm not a sad fanatic; but he is an important character in the More
