Amazing Spider-Man 2 Viral Convicts Lizard
Does this hint at a Rhys Ifans cameo?

The Amazing Spider-Man, The Lizard - Rhys Ifans

The online viral shenanigans for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are continuing energetically in the wake of the New Year's Eve business, and while that strange enemiesunite site doesn't look to be doing anything for another month, there's still the Daily Bugle on Tumblr. Much of the content is fluff, but its latest report fills in some plot between the first film and the sequel, and hints at a re-appearence of Rhys Ifans' Dr Curt Conners, AKA The Lizard.

It transpires that post-Amazing Spider-Man, Conners has been put on trial and eventually convicted on twenty indictments including the murder of Captain George Stacy of the NYPD. His defence, that he only injected himself with the Lizard serum to prevent the corrupt Oscorp breaking it out on unsuspecting members of the public, did not fly with the jury. Probably because that isn't really a legal defence (what is that, a combination of necessity and insanity?).

The sentencing is where it gets interesting, since there's some debate over whether Conners should be sent to Marvel's Alcatraz-y prison hellhole Rikers Island, or to the Ravenscroft Institute For The Criminally Insane (Marvel's equivalent of Arkham Asylum).

Since we know from previous intel that Ravenscroft will feature in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it's possible that the stage is being set for at least a cameo Lizard appearance of some description. But since the judge has yet to reach a decision, Conners may yet end up at Rikers after all, in which case, might we see him in Drew Goddard's Sinister Six?

Give us your thoughts on the best possible future Lizard usage in the comments below. What we know for sure is that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is once again directed by Marc Webb, and sees Spidey (Andrew Garfield) facing off against Electro (Jamie Foxx) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti). Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) is, of course, also on hand. Expect much more drip-fed info and teasing before the release on April 18.
