A few months ago there was a brief time-out during which original studio Paramount suddenly dropped sports movie Draft Day. Summit, however, picked up the ball and ran with it, and now it's as if that drama never happened. Ivan Reitman's single-day American Football epic is now complete, and to prove it here's the trailer. Be warned: this is one of those promos that appears to deliver the dramatic and emotional arc of the entire film, right down to its conclusion.
Costner, as you'll have gathered from that, plays Sonny Weaver Jr, the general manager of the Cleveland Browns. He's under pressure to secure the hottest talent for his team during the NFL draft. But like any decent self-confident maverick, he has some tricks up his sleeve and some outside-the-box ideas percolating in his cool noggin.
Jennifer Garner, Frank Langella, Dennis Leary, Terry Crews, Tom Welling, Sam Elliott, Roseanna Arquette and Ellen Burstyn head the impressive cast, and Reitman is working from a Black List screenplay by Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph. We don't have a release date here in the UK yet, but the US gets Draft Day on April 11.
