Following on from the big (if not all that shocking, given the last series' date) announcement that Sherlock Series 3 will finally make its way to our screens from New Year’s Day, some new imagery from the show has arrived online and can be pored over for possible clues in the gallery below.

The new series, of course, finds Holmes’ friends mourning the fact that he’s dead and gone, without realising that he’s been playing a merry jape on them and that he’s actually alive and well and as snarktastic as ever. Bet they’ll be so pleased to learn the truth and no one will complain about being kept in the dark. At all...

This series’ episodes includes Mark Gatiss’ The Empty Hearse, Stephen Thompson’s The Sign Of Three (Jan 5) and Steven Moffat’s His Last Vow (Jan 12). If you're a fan of the show, you'll definitely want to get your hands on an iPad and download the latest issue of Empire (with Transformers: Age Of Extinction on the front). In it, you'll enjoy a 360-degree tour of 221B Baker Street, with audio bonus features whenever you tap on a prop. Plus, there's an exclusive photoshoot with show creators Gatiss and Moffat, which only mentions hardcore porn once. Here's a taster - of the feature, not the hardcore porn - below.
