New Divergent Poster Arrives
With the trailer due shortly

Marketing efforts for big films tend to work in certain cycles: there are the teaser images, then the first teaser trailer, several posters and then perhaps another, longer footage burst. YA novel adaptation Divergent is currently leaving a big poster phase (there are a batch of characters posters lurking lower down the page), with the one-sheet arriving now and the latest full trailer promised within hours.

The poster is a fairly standard one, with stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James pulling superhero-style poses. Did they really have to make Woodley try the much-mocked Black Widow backside stance?

Adapted from the first of Veronica Roth’s novels, Divergent is set in a society where people are divided into social factions based on their personalities. It’s all part of a drive to end years of civil strife and war that has wracked a future America.
Woodley’s Beatrice “Tris” Prior, however, is different. She doesn’t belong in any one faction, and her divergent nature means she’s a threat to the orderly running of the civilization.

Things aren’t easy for those who are identified as different – and by different, we mean dangerous.

Tris joins the Dauntless (courageous) faction but there, together with friends and her mysterious, handsome trailer Four (James), Tris must face the perils ahead and figure out the plans of Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), the stern figurehead she’ll have to defeat.

With Neil Burger directing and Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor on script duty, Divergent is hurtling through post-production now and will hit UK screens on April 4 next year.
