How do you re-imagine a terrifying green-skinned, horned, baby-targeting fairy as the heroine in the tale? We're not sure, but Disney's Maleficent promises to provide the answer, with Angelina Jolie stepping into the role and Robert Stromberg directing. The first trailer and poster for the film are now online, as well as some new stills below.
The film sees Jolie's Maleficent grow up in an idyllic forest, only to see it ravaged by an invading army and be betrayed by those closest to her, "an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone". Out for revenge, she curses the baby daughter of the invading king - but as the child grows up (into Elle Fanning) she realises that she may be the key to peace between the kingdoms.
We saw concept make-up for the movie as production started last year, but with a release date in May 2014, perhaps it's not surprising that we haven't had a poster to now. Fun fact, incidentally: that's Jolie's daughter Vivienne as the young Aurora, presumably because she's the only toddler around who didn't burst into tears around Jolie's horned figure.
I see Ellie Fanning has been taking lessens from Natalie Portman and Dick van Dyke to "perfect" her english accent - absolutely horrendous. And since when did sound effects for the letters moving to form the title come back in fashion? This does not look promising. More
