Exclusive: Saoirse Ronan On Her Star Wars Episode VII Audition
'I had so much fun pretending to take out a lightsaber...'

Saoirse Ronan was utterly charming in her Empire Podcast interview this week, talking about her latest, How I Live Now, as well as her love of Bridesmaids, how to pronounce her name and a little movie called Star Wars Episode VII, which she recently revealed she'd auditioned for.

Below is what she had to say about the experience of going in for J.J. Abrams and co., which may be a touch on the vague side, but does contain a little teasing titbit about lightsabers for any die-hard Star Wars fans to enjoy.

“Yeah, I did [audition for Star Wars Episode VII]… I don’t know whether I should have said that now! I mean, everyone did. Everyone has auditioned for it. So many people I know have gone in for the part I’ve gone in for, and guys who’ve gone in for a particular part, so I’d imagine J.J. is probably just scanning the earth to find the people that ne needs.”

“But nobody has a clue what it’s about, and nobody’s read the script. So I’ve gone in and read for it, but I have to say, I think it’s the only time I’ve ever thought, ‘You know what? Even if I don’t get it, I had so much fun auditioning, pretending to take out a lightsaber – out of a bag, kind of inspect it and not know what it is. That was… that was great. A lightsaber! Star Wars!”

You can listen to the whole interview in full in the podcast below, and if you care to share, don't forget to embed the SoundCloud player itself, if you'd be so kind.

Gravtias, Episode 2
I mean, as opposed to Lucas, who seemed to install a personality bypass in all of his actors for the prequels. Hopefully, JJ will also stay away from the Lucas tradition of bad, slapstick humour... More

Gravitas
It would seem that JJ and the casting directors have their work cut out for them, if this is the level of talent that is auditioning for the film. I wonder, thinking back to Phantom Menace and remembering the likes of Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor, whether we will end up with a wealth of underused talent, or if JJ will actually allow the actors to, y'know, act. More dodgy accents
I'm surprised reviews of 'How I live now' haven't focused more on Ronan's dodgy wandering Irish slash American accent. Here's hoping JJ casts her as Irish if she gets the Star Wars gig. More
