Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Trailer Jumps In
'We'll never see it coming...'

After months without a sniff of a big promotional push for the new Jack Ryan film – bar some stills – things have kicked up a notch with the movie due out in December. Following the poster earlier this week, the trailer for this latest Ryan adventure (subtitled Shadow Recruit) has now arrived online for your viewing pleasure.

Shadow Recruit, directed by and co-starring Kenneth Branagh, is a reboot of Ryan’s origin story that has Star Trek’s Chris Pine inheriting the mantle from Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

In this one, despite his relative youth, Ryan’s an established CIA covert analyst who discovers a sneaky Russian plot (by Branagh’s Viktor Cherevin) to crash the U.S. economy. Naturally, stopping the evil plan won’t require sitting at a computer watching the stock market figures: it’ll mean Ryan getting into all sorts of action scrapes.

Add to that his handler / mentor, William Harper (Kevin Costner) trying to help him stay alive, and his relationship with wife Cathy (Keira Knightley) and you’ll got the makings of a full-on Ryan cocktail. From the looks of this first promo, Branagh and his team (including writer Adam Cozad tackling Tom Clancy’s most famous character) are looking to the likes of Bourne and the modern Bond for this one.

With David Paymer, Colm Feore and Nonso Anozie among the cast, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is out in the UK on December 26.

RE: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Trailer Jumps In
L: rcrofty7 There is nothing in the trailer to suggest he will be a bourne type character, there are lots of explosions etc, but there were in clear and present danger and a huge bomb in the last one. He may still be the office man they previous ones were, but all of the jack ryans had some element of action where they had to fight or shoot guns. Just because he was given a gun and his status updated doesn't mean he is gonna be James Bond. I like everyone else hope they keep to th More

RE: Brains over Brawn
I'm not familiar with Jack Ryan but judging from what fans are saying this does seem like a diversion from the everyday quality of the character. Which is a shame because it actually looks like pretty good. It's a case of Hollywood marketing gurus not trusting the audience to see something they're unfamiliar with. This probably could have been a whole new franchise on its own but because studios are wary of failing they slap a familiar name on it to entice audiences. They can't even trust More

RE:
Finally after months of speculation the trailer for Jack Ryan arrives. Why did it take so long? However after seeing this, I can't help but wonder whether Branagh and Paramount did the right thing by transforming Ryan into an action character instead of the everyday analyst who finds himself way over his head pretty much everytime he goes into the field. I bet the writers of this entry will play up Ryan's Marine career, and his subsequent accident, as an excuse for all his skills. I hope More
