Louis Leterrier Says He'll Direct Now You See Me Sequel
It'll probably not be called Now You See Me Again

With the sleeper hit success of illusionist heist caper Now You See Me this summer, a sequel seemed inevitable and sure enough, one is already planned. Now director Louis Leterrier has indicated that he’ll be back to make it.

"Obviously it was always part of it. I'm currently, not writing, but we're coming up with the story, the plot, the twist and the new characters and everything,” he tells Coming Soon. "It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I'm very much involved in it. I don't know if it's going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between."

What’s more up in the air is whether he’ll be reuniting core cast members Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco as the four disparate tricksters originally brought together to pull off a complicated series of Robin Hood-style robberies against a big corporate type. They, plus one or two other cast members (who we won’t discuss to avoid spoiling anyone who hasn’t seen the movie) could conceivably come back – and probably should, given the plot connection – though that’s all up in the air like a juggler’s clubs for now.

Interestingly, Leterrier has admitted that the film did originally include a scene openly setting up a potential follow-up, which will be seen on the film’s home entertainment release. “It was sort of ending the movie in ‘onto further adventures,' which is fine, but we don't really do that. We had a scene that we kept and when Lionsgate and Summit said, ‘Yeah, let's do a sequel,' I said, ‘Okay let's put it on the DVD and do the longer cut. It's after the credits, but I was very conscious of not jinxing it. This summer I saw a couple of movies where they had ‘sequelitis' and you totally jinx it, but this was only for the DVD and only for the Blu-ray."
