Casey Affleck In For To Be Two
A sci-fi pic with director David Lowery

Some actors and directors can’t wait to be shot of each other once they’re finished making a film together, and then have to fake it for the press tour. But it appears that Casey Affleck and Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery enjoyed their collaboration to such a degree that they’ve already figured out another project to make together, locking in sci-fi tale To Be Two.

The high-concept tale will be adapted from the short story found in Paul Broks’ collection Into The Silent Land: Travels In Neuropsychology, which hit shelves back in 2004. To Be Two posits the idea that Star Trek-style teleportation exists, but in this case it can only take you to Mars. And, oh yes, the process scans someone, makes a digital copy to send to the Red Planet and then vaporises the original person.

So what happens when there’s an error and the machine fails to delete the original? Who is the real person? And how do their experiences make the two humans different? Plus, when the authorities decide to track down the original so it can be properly dealt with, what happens then? According to the Hollywood Reporter, all involved are looking to make something akin in tone to Looper, which makes us happy.

Assuming it all comes together, this will mark only Affleck’s latest stab at science fiction. He’s already busy at work on Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, and most recently worked on crime thriller Out Of The Furnace, which is set for release here on January 31. Ain’t Them Bodies Saints hits the UK on September 6.
