Universal has already launched one movie based on a Boom! Studios comic in the shape of Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington action caper 2 Guns. Now the studio is hoping to continue the run of success with an adaptation of the company’s Day Men.
Created by Matt Gagnon, Michael Alan Nelson and Brian Stelfreeze, Day Men takes a look at the vampire tale from what all involved hope will be a unique angle: the titular group is a secret order of humans who protect the fang club as they slumber during the day. When war breaks out between two of the ancient vampire families, one of the men must intervene to stop the bloodshed.
Universal is crossing its fingers that this one turns into a franchise a la Underworld or Blade, though it’ll have to tread carefully lest it end up lumbered with another failure like R.I.P.D. Because no one needs another dodgy comic adaptation that keels over at the box office.
The comic itself has just hit shelves after debuting at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, so the film version is still embryonic and there are no writers or director attached yet.
