Ang Lee Plans 3D Boxing Film
With a Peter Morgan script

08 August 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Ang Lee’s Life Of Pi-inspired love affair with 3D shows no signs of cooling. He’s apparently planning to use the technology to work on a project that involves a history of classic boxing matches, weaving a narrative between the punches.

Frost/Nixon’s Peter Morgan is on board to write the script, but everyone involved is in lock down mode on the project, and Deadline couldn’t ferret out many details. What we do know is the story will connect 3D footage of some of boxing’s greatest fights, particularly during the 1960s and 70s and including some of the biggest rivalries. So expect to see Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier trading blows in big-screen 3D.

Universal is backing this one, which Lee wants to use to push the boundaries of 3D tech in much the same way that James Cameron is exploring ideas via Avatar. Will it tell an underdog story, or glory in a champion’s victories, or both? Either way, it appears we’ll be ducking sweat the way we jumped at a tiger’s pounce…

Cool!
I always thought a boxing movie could work in 3D. Wrestling too. More

It will feel like I'm being punched in the face! And sucker punched in the gut! And sucker-punched in the eyes! But that's enough about the 3D 'gimmickery'. More
