Having dabbled in the society of the idle rich as The Great Gatsby’s Jordan Baker, actress Elizabeth Debicki is swapping parties for protocols, joining the cast of The Man From U.N.C.LE.
The adaptation of the cult spy series finally seems to be swinging into action, with Guy Ritchie directing and Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill cast as world-saving duo Illya Kuryakin and Napoleon Solo. They will battle the evils of T.H.R.U.S.H. (stop sniggering) for the United Network Command for Law and Enforcement.
Ritchie and writer/producer Lionel Wigram have cooked up the script for the film, which hopes to finally get the series successfully on the big screen. It’s been through various stars and directors, including Tom Cruise and Steven Soderbergh, but looks set to kick off shooting this September in London and Italy.
Debicki joins a cast that also includes Alicia Vikander, and though their roles haven’t been confirmed, Variety’s sources point to Debicki as a femme fatale. We expect to see plenty more casting announcements as the film creeps closer to production. It’s another big role for Debicki, who graduated Australian indie comedy to a prime part in Baz Luhrmann’s take on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel earlier this year.
